Curtain Call: The Body Shop Honeymania Soap

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been slacking off on the posts. Real life just takes over sometimes and one of my philosophies with having this blog is it’s just for fun and I only work on it when I have free time to do so. I have used up something completely recently so it’s another entry under the Curtain Call category. Here’s my take on the The Body Shop Honeymania Soap.

The Body Shop Honeymania Soap

What I love about this product? It smells really, really good! If you’re a fan of their Honeymania body products, you’ll love this too! The floral scent is not overpowering at all. It is described on their website with the following: “This honeycomb-shaped soap has a cute bee at its centre. It has a rich, floral scent and contains Community Trade honey made from the nectar of over 1,000 wildflowers. Lather up for skin that feels silky soft.” It’s a pretty glycerin soap that is pretty enough as a decoration piece in the bathroom. It cleans well, suds up really nice and leaves my skin clean without drying it. The hexagon shape makes it really easy to grip for use in the shower. I pair this with the body cream to make the scent last all day. It lasted as long as most glycerin soaps last.

What I don’t like about this product? I briefly touch on it above, the scent doesn’t last on you. But that’s how most bar soaps are so just pair it with their other products to make the scent last on you all day.

More information on this item and other products the brand carries is available on their website here. Products from this brand is carried at other retailers too and a list of their store locations can be found here.

Come Clean Pop Culture Soap

Hey guys! Today’s blog post takes a different turn as I review on a product that is targeted for dogs. I have had the opportunity to review what Come Clean has to offer for dogs. I was sent a small sample, so take that into consideration when reading my review.

What I love about this product? I got this sample a few months ago and immediately took pictures. That’s how it arrived to me in the mail, but understand that it’s only a sample size for review and I actually expect the actual product to look like the shots below taken from their website. It’s a very cute concept and the soap actually lasted longer than I expected. With my soapmaking background, I know by experience that glycerin bars don’t last as long as traditional soap bars but I didn’t expect the tiny sample to last for more than a wash on my Brittany Spaniel. I classify Brittany Spaniels as medium to large-sized dogs, so this tiny sample lasting more than one wash (it was good enough for 2) amazed me. With that said, it does what it’s supposed to do — clean the dog during a wash. It takes off the dirt and any accompanying odor my dog had. Amount of lather is decent, but definitely don’t expect it to have the same amount of lather as a regular dog shampoo. Scent is lightly pleasant and you have several to choose from to you own liking: Bergamot Sage, Lemon Eucalyptus, Coconut Lavender and I spotted a new one they’re offering — Syrup & Waffles. When the soap is all gone, a little figurine toy is revealed. I think kids would enjoy this concept more and this reminds me of a novelty item I’ve seen sold in Hallmark stores recently where there’s a soap bar with a bill in the center that could range from $1 to $50.

What I don’t like about this product? If I had to be picky, it’s really just a matter of personal preference: I prefer dog shampoos still over soap bars.

Throwback Thursday: Handmade Soaps

Hey guys! It’s been a long time since I’ve done a Throwback Thursday post. I haven’t really been as active on Instagram lately as well. Things are busy at work and I have my personal life to take care of, so those come first. But I passed by these in the guest bathroom today and couldn’t resist. As seen on my IG account here, I present to you a few of the handmade soaps on the guest bathroom counter in our house.

Throwback Thursday Handmade Soaps

I LOVE handmade soaps. Up until a few years ago, I was actively making soaps as a hobby. I use 2 methods primarily: cold process (CP) and melt & pour (MP). I started with MP buy change at a Michael’s store. They had the glycerin base and the process is basically melt the base, color and add fragrance before pouring it into molds. I got fancy with it eventually, making full logs of cake soaps and stuff. I then tried CP and loved it. The problem is I produce at least 12 bars with each batch so I participated in soap swaps on this soap forum I belonged to. As you can see in the picture, one of them was from 2005 (which is at the height of my soap making and swapping I think). It was fun as some were themed and some even had non-soap items but fall into the bath and body category like bath bombs and body butters. Some swaps even have the recipes included to share with others. I eventually had to stop because I was producing too much for any swap and even for giving away to people I know that would appreciate them. Sometimes I’d save a few bars of soap from a swap completely because I liked the look or the packaging. Some I’ve used once just to see what the formula is like but then set it to dry so I can keep it still. The recipe booklets come in handy too if I end up liking a formula, so I can make it for myself. I have a base formula I follow and tweak that I’ve stuck to since 2004. I still have my soap making notebook where I log the recipe of each batch of CP soap I’ve ever made. I use them as my inspiration for when I make my next batch of soap. 🙂

LUSH Sultana Of Soap

Who doesn’t love LUSH? LUSH is a nifty brand that you will either love or hate. I say hate because some people think they’re uberly overpriced for what you get. And that’s where I come in….I put this to the test and let you know what I find and what I think as a whole. We’ll start with LUSH Sultana Of Soap.

LUSH Sultana Of Soap

Described as “LUSCIOUSLY FRUITY, SUPREMELY CREAMY SOAP”, this product comes in 3.5 oz and retails for $6.40. More beautiful description found on their website:

“Revel in Sultana’s majesty, and have a wash with the royalty of soaps. It looks like a fancy Italian dessert; a giant nougat cake topped with succulent currants and apricots. Smooth a slice of our soft decadent soap all over your body for a creamy lather and the most dazzling bergamot and olibanum scent. Your skin will be delighted and you’ll be left softer and smelling like a fancy candy shop with a touch of fruity sweetness. If you weren’t invited to the wedding, at least you can brush shoulders with royalty in the shower.”

Directions indicated on their website are as follows: “For hands, and use all over naked bodies. Get sudsy in the bath and shower. For optimal longevity, keep LUSH soap in a well-drained soap dish (away from water) between uses.”

What I love about this product? This is the part where some people will hate, but it’s what I love most about this soap: the scent. It is honestly one of the most beautifully fragrant soaps I have ever used. And mind you, I make my own soap. I have never come across a scent even close to smelling like this. Whatever it is, I want a whole bottle of it. I wish they sold a perfume that smelled like this. Maybe they do! I’ll have to check after publishing this post. I didn’t think this would smell the way it does originally just based on the name. Sultana makes me think of a musky, sexy scent like sandalwood or something. I’m so glad that I got the chance to try this one because it’s my favorite scent to date among all the products I’ve tried from LUSH. The lather is very soft and creamy. It feels so luxurious in the shower using it. It’s like taking a milk bath. It almost makes me wish the shower would last forever. It definitely relaxes me, but again….this is mostly due to the scent and scent is relative to everyone. The scent sticks to me hours after being out of the shower. I have my co-workers asking me what is the scent they smell on me.

What I don’t like about this product? If I had to be picky, the price. $6.40 for a 3.5 oz is wayyy too much and the only way I personally can justify it is that I can’t make this soap because I don’t have this scent and I’d have to go through the trouble of getting the fresh ingredients to make it (such as fresh currants). If I have access to the fresh ingredients component of this soap and the scent, I’ll probably end up making it myself (but I don’t so….).

This item is available exclusively at LUSH stores worldwide and online.
