ipsy December 2017 Glam Bag

5 more days ’til Christmas! I’ve been off since last week and have finished all holiday related shopping so I’m just spending my time catching up on my recorded shows on the Investigation Discovery channel and have just started watching some Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel. I was out-of-town for 2 nights at a cabin in Clayton Lake State Park (OK) and it was a beautiful stay. The cabin is right by the lake so it was convenient to go fishing there at night. The cabin we stayed at was far from the other cabins so we didn’t really see anyone else there really. Our dog loved every minute of it. He even took a few dips in the cold lake! Now I’m already starting to research which state park we should go to next! I returned to a few things piling up in the mailbox and this is one of them. Here’s what I got in my ipsy December 2017 Glam Bag.

I would’ve liked the bag more if it was more symmetrical. I don’t know if you can tell but the “height” of the bag on one side is different from the other side. I don’t know if it’s intentional but oh well…it’s still usable. First item that caught my eye is the Smashbox Cosmetics Be Legendary Lipstick. The shade everyone got is called Legendary. It’s a bold red shade that I simply love. Next item that caught my eye is the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. I’ve actually tried out this product before and have reviewed it here. Then we have the Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL. The only Rodial product I’ve had the pleasure of trying out left me impressed so I’m looking forward to trying this out. I did not know they have a makeup line! Next we have the NIP+FAB Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum. I love facial serums so I’m eager to try this one out ASAP! It’s starting to get cold and dry again this weekend where I’m at so this is simply perfect timing to have received this in my glam bag. Last up is NYX Faux Blacks Eyeliner. The shade I got this in is Onyx.

So I was expecting a little bit more wow with the bag itself for Christmas but it’s better than last year’s bag in my opinion — so it’s all good! I think I’ll get to keep most of the items in my glam bag to try for myself, which is pretty rare really so I’m looking forward to it!

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

The weeks seems to be dragging by slowly. I hope you guys are having a better week than me so far. I’m starting to get back into posting regularly again. Here are my thoughts on the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

What I love about this product? Being that I’m more of a facial scrub kind of gal, this is a refreshing addition to my skincare regimen. My skin was starting to feel dry and a little irritated with facial scrubs as it’s still basically winter (hello, dry skin weather!). Enter this find from an impulse purchase over a year ago during Sephora’s Black Friday sale. It’s a facial cleanser that cleans my skin gently while stripping off everything that is leftover from the day. All the grime, dirt and oil is gone. I use this nightly and find its mildness a welcoming attribute. My skin is left feeling squeaky clean but not dry. I love it.

What I don’t like about this product? I was initially apprehensive of trying this brand out as someone I know on Instagram broke out while using the face moisturizer from this brand. I decided to give it a try out of desperation one night when I knew that using a facial scrub to wash my face would be a very bad idea. It’s a lifesaver!

More information on this item and other products from this brand is available on their website. Products from this brand is also carried by other retailers such as Sephora and ULTA.

ipsy September 2015 Glam Bag

Hey guys! I got this in the mailbox when I was away on a short trip so I was wary about it since it was mildy hot here but everything seems to be okay. Here’s what I got in my ipsy September 2015 Glam Bag.

ipsy September 2015 Glam Bag

First off, the bag. I actually love it! I’m very excited since I really liked last month’s bag as well. Before that it was a series of pretty much mehs for me. First item that caught my eye is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair® Cream. I *think* I have this somewhere stashed from some Thanksgiving sale last year but I never got around to using it. Now I will have a travel sized one to use! This will ensure I actually get to try the product sooner. Next up is Formula X Nail Color. The shade I got is called Ignite. I have too many polishes to go through at the moment so I might just pass this on as a stocking stuffer to one of my nieces later on. Then we have the NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio. It looks to be a pretty nice trio and the colors seem like it will work for most eye colors. Next is tre’StiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon. I have too many lip items so off to the stocking stuffer stash it goes. Last item is the ACURE Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes. Being that this is unscented, I’m keeping this baby for use when my husband and I go on one of our hikes.

Overall, the products are not bad but I do love the bag more. I was going to cancel but the auto-renewal kicked in and at the moment I’m okay with that. Haha, let’s see if I still feel that way next month (I hope so!).

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay

Hey guys! How y’all been doing?! The weather got a wee bit colder overall here and I feel it every morning. In fact, today is the day I finally caved in and slipped a jacket on before stepping out of the house. I like staying warm at all times and the past few days haven’t exactly been that on the car ride to work! It’s only half of the reason why I haven’t been as active on the blog here (yes, cold weather can make me not feel like blogging). The other half is a new game I’ve been playing called Archeage. So just bear with me with this transition. But today I have a post on something I got in an earlier ipsy Glam Bag (ipsy February 2014 Glam Bag). Now if you have been reading my blog for a while now, you will know that once in a while some items from an older ipsy Glam Bag will pop up in a regular review or a Curtain Call review. But there’s not a whole lot of them really. So when I thought this product warrants one, it definitely caught my attention in a really good or really bad way. Here’s First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay.

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay

What I love about this product? The scent is very light and clean for a cleanser. It works better than I thought in helping keep my skin clear. I do think that the red clay in this product helps. I’ve used other products with clay and it draws out dirt and oil really well. It could be very drying too, but not in this product. You know the feeling where your skin feels very tight after washing? In my experience, it’s cleansers that have stripped off too much moisture from my skin. My solution is always to moisturize immediately, but I would avoid that from happening in the first place as much as possible. You want a cleanser that cleans and strips off excess oil — not strip of all moisture from your skin. The natural reaction of my skin (in my experience) is that it starts to try to compensate the dryness very fast and this results in overcompensation of it usually, which gives me more oil production on the skin. It also cleans without leaving a residue or the feeling I get from washing soap off my hands or body with hard water. That feeling is slightly slippery that you simply can’t wash it off and I find it very annoying. A face and body wash I tried recently did that, but I didn’t bash it as much only because it contains salicylic acid and if there’s anything left on my skin after a wash…..I kinda welcome that since it’s an acne-fighting ingredient. Still, I prefer not to have that feeling after washing my face (or body) and this facial cleanser doesn’t do that. This facial cleanser is kinda like the last of everything in the childhood story Goldilocks and the 3 Bears — everything about this is just right.

What I don’t like about this product? If I have to be extremely picky, the price. While it is almost the perfect facial cleanser in my experience, I’m not sure how I’d feel plunking down $24 for 4.7 oz of this. I’m still hemming and hawing over the idea of purchasing this because I really do like it a lot.

This item is available on their online store here as well as at other retailers such as Sephora, QVC and Amazon.com.

ipsy February 2014 Glam Bag

Hey guys! If you’ve been following my ipsy Glam Bag posts, you would’ve noticed that things have been going relatively well for me in terms of what I’m getting with mine for the past fwe months. Well, I knew this would happen eventually so here’s my take on my ipsy February 2014 Glam Bag.

ipsy February 2014 Glam Bag

This is the worst ipsy Glam Bag I have received to date. But all is not lost. I did like and will be keeping one thing out of the 5 I got. First up is POP Beauty Plump Pout. It’s basically a glossy stain with lip-plumping goodness packed in the tube. I got this shade in Peony Petal and if this were a bolder shade (like the other shade that I didn’t end up getting, some fuchsia one) I may have entertained the thought of keeping it. But I have too many opened lip products already anyway that this will just go into my gifting or giveaway pile. Next item I got is the only one I’m keeping. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay. While my makeup arsenal is overflowing, the same can’t be said for my skincare pile. I have a few of each type of item I rotate through on a regular basis, but I typically don’t like to start something new until something else is used up. This is why I was so excited to have gotten this item. It’s something new and shiny that I can have fun with trying it out. It is supposedly safe for sensitive skin so it would suit most if not all. The next item I pulled out is the City Color Be Matte Blush. I received this in the shade Fresh Melon. While I was intrigued by it, I have at least 3 new blushes to try out and incorporate in my makeup pile from the very awesome CVS beauty clearance event that ended not too long ago. I liked those more than this, so this goes to my gifting or giveaway pile as well. I was excited when I saw the shade in the clear tube. It make me think of rose gold for some reason. But alas, it is not. The shade I got this in is called Ambrosia. This is an eye shadow base — something I don’t use at all so off to the same pile it goes. Last item from my ipsy Glam Bag is Zoya Odette. I already own this shade, so you probably know where this is going. So yeah, not a great bag for me this month but I figured it would happen sooner or later. I don’t regret signing up for an entire year still cause most of the bags I’ve received from the past ranged from very good to superb. I didn’t care for this months makeup bag either though. Some of the ones I got in the past really wowed me, but this is just a plain coral pink one.
