MEDIHEAL Cica Calming Ampoule Mask
The weekend is flying by fast. The weather is cooling off a bit more as October approaches. I was able to try one of the sheet masks I’ve been looking forward to using for a while. Here’s today’s post on the MEDIHEAL Cica Calming Ampoule Mask.
First thoughts? When I started to gain interest in Asian beauty back in July, I keep hearing Cica this and Cica that. I was left wondering what is this ingredient I’ve never heard of that is talked about a lot. Apparently for the past few years, it’s an ingredient that is valued for being able to calm inflammation, redness and irritated skin. It is in A LOT of Asian beauty products, especially K-beauty. Instead of Cica, sometimes you will see its scientific name — Centella asiatica. I got this on Amazon last Prime Day. There is a lot of ampoule in the packet and it’s a little bit ridiculous as I took the sheet mask off my face almost an hour of it being on my face and it was still damp!!! This is probably the longest I’ve ever left a sheet mask on and it was still damp that I was able to rub the leftover on the sheet mask onto my neck, chest, arms and even feet. I saved what’s left in the packet for my skincare routine later that night and the morning after. The thin sheet mask looks translucent when soaked with the essence and fits my face almost perfectly. The scent isn’t very herbal but it does make me think of green plants with a very slight hint of mint. It is on the light side and I did not notice the scent at all the entire time the sheet mask is on my face. I had to let my face air dry as my face was damp and tacky to the touch after removing the sheet mask. It didn’t dry down as nice as I had hoped but it wasn’t too bad — I just eventually applied my sunscreen on top of that to seal everything in. No face moisturizer needed as the ampoule is more than enough. I did find my face to be bright and dewy looking after using this.
Any negatives? Just how long it takes to dry and that it doesn’t dry down as nicely as I had hoped it would. I dislike the tacky feeling a lot of sheet masks leave after use and this is almost tacky enough to fall into my not to repurchase list. I can still tolerate it but it’s pushing it. If I find another Cica sheet mask that dries down better than this one and calms any redness I have, I will definitely not repurchase this. Also, a whitehead and a few closed comedones popped up the day after using this sheet mask. I cannot 100% say that using this was the cause of it BUT I do have 9 more in the box, so I will update this post if I do find this sheet mask to be the cause of it. Even if that is the case, do not let this deter you from trying it as everyone’s skin is different and if it did cause mine to breakout or react it may not necessarily happen to you too.
