Curtain Call: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Shampoo
Hey guys! Today’s Curtain Call post is on a product I came upon by pure chance. There were a bunch of these marked down on sale at Walmart once and I figured why not give it a shot? I wish I picked up a couple more of these for my co-worker friends to try being that this is supposed to help with frizz and I have pretty much pin straight long hair.
At 10 fl oz / 295 ml, this retails for $6.49 at CVS and is similarly priced at various retail and drugstores. It goes on sale from time to time (it’s $4.87 right now at CVS!) and combined with coupons from your weekly Sunday paper or through tearpads in the store, this can essentially comes close to being free. The whole tube lasted me for a little over 2 months. Remember, I have long hair that goes down my back. The front text reads “REPAIRING FOR DAMAGED HAIR” and “MENDS & BLOCKS FRIZZ FOR EASY STYLING”. The back of the tube reads the following:
“100% flawless, frizz-free hair,
from start to finish.*
This shampoo starts blocking frizz in the shower for easy styling. With our Frizz-Mending Complex, it smoothes strands, repairs by helping to seal split ends and restores hair’s natural defense against frizz. Leaves distressed tresses soft, shiny and highly manageable. Safe for color-treated hair.
HOW TO: Apply to wet hair, lather, rinse well. Use with FRIZZ-EASE® Smooth Start® Repairing Conditioner and FRIZZ-EASE® Hair Serum® for best results.”

Verdict? Not bad. While it functions well as a regular shampoo, it’s not the best I’ve tried ever. It cleanses my hair well, but I can’t verify the claim that it helps with frizz. The scent is pleasant like that of a regular shampoo really. If it goes on sale or clearance for a good price, I’ll pick up a couple more just cause it’s a good buy.
This product can easily be purchased in various retail and drugstores such as Walmart, Target, ULTA, CVS, and Walgreens. It is also available online at various websites that carry beauty and personal care products.
Curtain Call: John Frieda Luxurious Volume Full Splendor Shampoo & Conditioner
Here’s another segment of Curtain Call, where I provide an honest review at the end of the life of a product I’ve been using. Today we have shampoo and conditioner from John Frieda. This is their Luxurious Volume Full Splendor Shampoo & Conditioner. I managed to get these with my Extra Care Bucks (ECB) from CVS to get more ECB with this purchase.
At 8.45 fl oz / 250 ml (bonus size of 30% more is 11 fl oz / 325 ml), this retails for $6.99 at CVS and is similarly priced at various retail and drugstores. It goes on sale from time to time and combined with coupons from your weekly Sunday paper or through tearpads in the store, this can essentially comes close to being free. The whole tube lasted me for almost 3 months. With my long hair, that’s pretty good. The front text reads “builds fullness at the roots; strengthens and conditions where needed for silky, full-bodied hair” and “boosts volume in all 3 dimensions“. The back of the tube reads the following:
“Instantly boosts volume in all 3 dimensions: fullness, thickness & lift
Luxurious Volume line builds fullness at the roots. thickens individual strands and increased lift for noticeably thicker, full-bodied hair with up to:
110% MORE FULLNESS*
50% MORE THICKNESS*
90% MORE LIFT*
(Shampoo) Luxurious Volume Full SplendorTM Shampoo strengthens hair from the inside out, plumps up hair and fills in damaged areas for healthy volume that starts at the roots. (Conditioner) Luxurious Volume Full SplendorTM Conditioner targets damaged areas, providing weightless conditioning only where needed for full-bodied style with a soft, silky feel.”

Verdict? I like it. While I’m not going to rush out and claim that this is my holy grail shampoo and conditioner, it does what it claims to do. It cleanses my hair well and I do feel like I get more volume after using this. The scent is pleasant and refreshing; a typical shampoo scent really. Conditioner works really well. I apply it to my ends first then even it out throughout my hair. I avoid getting conditioner on my scalp just as a preference. My scalp doesn’t need much conditioning really. If I am out and it’s on for a good price, I’ll grab it. Other than that, I’ll still keep my eyes peeled for something new to try that would wow me.

Curtain Call: John Frieda Collection Root Awakening Shampoo & Conditioner
So here we are again with another segment of Curtain Call, where I provide an honest review at the end of the life of a product I’ve been using. Today we have shampoo and conditioner from John Frieda’s Root Awakening line. I got the formula for normal hair. I managed to get these with my Extra Care Bucks (ECB) from CVS to get more ECB with this purchase.
At 8.45 fl oz / 250 ml, this retails for $6.99 at CVS and is similarly priced at various retail and drugstores. It goes on sale from time to time and combined with coupons from your weekly Sunday paper or through tearpads in the store, this can essentially comes close to being free. The whole tube lasted me for a little over 2 months and with my long hair, that’s pretty good. The front text reads “improves hair health, with natural eucalyptus” and “invigorating & feeds the roots for bouncy, shiny, radiant hair”. The back of the tube reads the following:
“A small change can make a big difference to the healthy look of your hair. The Root AwakeningTM line with natural Eucalyptus hydrates your scalp, nourishes from roots to ends and stimulates your senses, for hair that’s noticeably more radiant and resilient with every use.
Experience the beauty of Eucalyptus:
SEE your hair’s pure radiance
BREATHE the invigorating essence
FEEL the energy feeding your roots
(Shampoo) Root AwakeningTM Health InfusingTM Shampoo cleanses with a fresh tingle from roots to ends for pure shine and bounce. (Conditioner) Root AwakeningTM Health InfusingTM Conditioner nurtures hair from roots to ends for great manageability and shine.”

John Frieda Collection Root Awakening Shampoo & Conditioner
Verdict? Not bad. It cleanses my hair well and doesn’t dry it out at all. I can use this everyday or every other day instead. The Eucalyptus scent isn’t too strong, but readers may want to open it just to sniff it and make sure. The scent stays on my hair for a good while and it’s quite refreshing. Conditioner does the job well. I apply it to my ends first then even it out throughout my hair. I avoid getting conditioner on my scalp just as a preference. My scalp doesn’t need much conditioning really. However, there is nothing really about the shampoo or conditioner that sets it apart from all other brands. If I am out and it’s on for a good price, I’ll grab it. Other than that, I’d rather try some other brands in hopes of finding one that I really like.
