OPI The Sky’s My Limit

Hey guys! Hope y’all are having a great week so far. The weekend is coming up fast and I have lots of plans to catch up on my blog. Today’s post is on a shade that is pretty special to me. You see, this shade will always make me think of Polish Insomniac and the story behind how this shade got to me. I won an Instagram round robin giveaway that she took part of a few months ago. The prize she’s giving away on her IG account is a set of the OPI Mustang Collection. She informed me happily that I won and promptly sent out a package. She was very excited as she decided to include something else from my wish list that she also had on hand. Such a sweet girl! It was around the time I was set to leave for a road trip to Yellowstone that the package should’ve arrived. It didn’t, but I figured it just got slowed down in the mail. About 3 weeks later with still no sign of the package, I figured it was lost. BUT I didn’t want to not acknowledge that she did send something off to me, so I sent her a message on Twitter telling her that it hasn’t arrived and it could be lost but I wanted to thank her anyway. She responded pretty quick that she looked up the tracking and it showed that it has never left her residence. The package was never picked up! It was stolen. I reassured her that it’s okay since I’ve been on both sending and receiving ends of something that got lost and I didn’t want her to worry about it. She seemed more upset than me and understandably so. She put thought into sending the extras she wanted me to have.

Fast forward to a few days later, I got a package in the mail. It was from her. She sent out another package with all shades from my wish list and included the shade I told her I was most excited to get when she first informed me that I won her giveaway: OPI The Sky’s My Limit. So here it is ladies and gentlemen….

OPI The Sky’s My Limit

The Sky’s My Limit is this very pretty metallic blue shimmer. It’s not a shade I’ve never seen before (made me think of OPI Catch Me In Your Net), but it’s the prettiest one from the collection to me. It’s pretty opaque that I could’ve used one less coat. Shown is 3 coats with no top coat.

I love this shade and the story of how it got to me. Check out Polish Insomniac‘s blog if you haven’t yet! She’s one of the sweetest bloggers I’ve come to know over the years.

Zoya Magical Pixie Swatches

Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve shown some nail swatches here because I was curing several breaks and tears. But when I finally got around to getting some done, this is the collection I reached for — Zoya Magical Pixie Swatches. Here they are shown in the order of the press release.

First up is Cosmo.

Zoya Cosmo

I absolutely adore this shade. It’s a glitter with silver holographic particles. What’s not to love? It is described as “a silver crystal sparkle, textured PixieDust with mega hex iridescent particles”. This type of shade isn’t new at all (I think of OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle) but that’s a limited edition shade so those that missed out on the OPI can get this Zoya one. Comparison between the 2 is that they’re similar but Zoya Cosmo has a textured finish and it’s more packed. Glitter in both will differ as well, which is why I see them more as similar and definitely not as dupes. Shown is one generous coat with no top coat.

Next up is Vega.

Zoya Vega

Vega is the blue version of Cosmo basically. It’s packed with the same glittery goodness and bears the same texture finish. It is described as “blue opal sparkle, textured PixieDust with mega hex iridescent particles”. Formula is great to work with. Shown is one generous coat with no top coat.

Lastly, here’s Lux.

Zoya Lux

Lux is basically the same exact thing as Cosmo and Vega except in Pink. This is described as “a rose quartz sparkle textured PixieDust with mega hex iridescent particles”. Formula is great to work with and it dries really fast. Shown is one generous coat with no top coat.

This is Zoya’s offering for the texture trend that’s been very popular in the nail polish world the past few months. “Imagine the best-selling Zoya PixieDust formula amped up with larger glitter and the first ever holographic pixie particle – for a never before seen magical effect!” I personally don’t care much for the texture trend, but I can safely say that these Zoya’s are my favorite among all the textured polishes I’ve seen. I don’t care much for non-glitter texture polishes really. Some non-glittery texture shades can pass off as cute to me (like a mint color), but I certainly have no desire to get them in every shade possible. I like the formula for these as I didn’t have to pat or strategically place the glitter on the nail like some other hex glitter polishes from various brands.

OPI Holland Collection

OPI sure knows how to kick things off next year! Read on.

Color with a Touch of Dutch

OPI Launches Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012

OPI celebrates color with the Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Inspired by the country’s range of stunning shades – as seen in vivid tulips, windmill-dotted hillsides and bustling canals – the collection’s twelve shades offer a mixture of sophisticated neutrals and highly-pigmented brights.

“Holland has a very unique, vibrant beauty to match its open-minded nature,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Spring is the season of color, and the Holland Collection provides an array of pink, coral and orange hues that capture this energy. The bright lacquers are married with neutrals in new variations like red clay and sea green.”

A sequence of electric brights, including a sun-lit orange (A Roll in The Hague), a hot coral-red (Red Lights Ahead…Where?) and two perfectly pretty pinks (Kiss Me on My Tulips and a light-catching Pedal Faster Suzi!) complement their cooler counterparts in hues of glistening purple (Dutch ’Ya Just Love OPI? and Vampsterdam), while elegant neutrals (Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, Did You ’ear About Van Gogh? and Wooden Shoe Like to Know?) meet two shimmer-laced blues (I Have a Herring Problem and I Don’t Give a Rotterdam!) and a creamy sea green (Thanks a WindMillion).

“Wearing these colors on fingers and toes will accessorize the season’s hottest trends,” remarks Suzi. “The varied palette of colors accentuates the looks that walked the runway, from colored pants and ladylike frocks to long, blousy-sleeved tops and dramatic patterns.”
